This time I’m not talking about unlimited storage. I’m talking about our mascot Liam – and boy he’s a big one. Think New York’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade big.

To celebrate the fact that we’re removing beta from Yahoo! Mail Beta, the team at Yahoo!’s campus in Sunnyvale celebrated with an enormous, inflatable Liam. Over 40 feet tall and able to float over tall buildings in a single bound, the celebration was meant to be as big as all the features we’ve been able to pack into the new Yahoo! Mail.

Consider these features:

  • Unlimited storage
  • Drag and drop
  • Preview pane
  • Select multiple messages
  • Right-click
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • And more….

Coming soon
The term “beta” will be removed from Yahoo! Mail Beta in a short while. We’ve all worked very hard to bring you the best mail product available, and will continue to work hard to keep it the best.

Why’s he called Liam?
Well, he’s actually based on a real person on the Yahoo! Mail team. But his name was chosen for a good reason. Can you guess it? Read it backwards…

Happy emailing

Send a Liam along with your Mail message

The next time you compose keep your eyes peeled for a little “present” from the Mail Beta team. Every once in a while, when you are composing an email you might see an ad that looks a little like this:

Draggable Liam

If you click and drag that Liam from the ad over to the email you’re composing it will add that Liam to your message.

There are three Liam’s to collect and share with your friends at the moment. There’s the boxer Liam pictured above and two others you’ll have to find on your own. So send a load of emails and see if you can find them all.

Happy Emailing

Look What’s New… (Part 2)

For my second installment for “the what’s new with Yahoo! Mail Beta”, I wanted to highlight the new ability to expand the viewable reading area in your mailbox.

More space to read
If you look about half-way down the ad on the right-hand side of your Yahoo! Mail Beta mailbox, you will see a small triangle (some might call it an arrow). If you click that triangle, cum arrow, you’ll be able to get more reading space. Here’s a picture:

Hide Ad Arrow

It won’t hide the ad forever; you’ll have to sign up for Yahoo! Mail Plus for that. But you do get the option for a bigger reading area when you need it.

Look What’s New… (part 1)

Hello everyone. You might have noticed some changes to your inbox recently, (and if you don’t see them now, you will soon). So I thought I’d use this space to highlight what’s new.

Checkboxes are back!
I think the first thing you’ll notice is the left-hand column of your Inbox. We heard your feedback loud and clear. And what you told us is that you wanted an easier way to select multiple messages at once. So the new column allows you to select multiple messages (without opening them in the reading pane) and take action on them all together.

Now by checking multiple messages you can delete, move or mark as spam all at once. Of course, if you’re like me and also use email clients like Thunderbird and Outlook, you can still use the Shift-click and Ctrl-click method to select messages.

Stay tuned… There’s more to come.

Happy Emailing.

Make the switch…

Switching banks is hard. Switching between Yahoo! Mail Classic and the new Yahoo! Mail Beta is easy. In the time it takes you to lift the receiver off the phone and put it to your ear, you could have already switched from the original classic version of mail to the Yahoo! Mail Beta version.

Just have a gander at the top of the page next to the logo in the Yahoo! Mail window. You should see a link under your account name. If you’re using classic mail it says, “Try the new Yahoo! Mail”, or if you’re using the new Mail Beta it says, “Switch Back”.

You are welcome to switch as often as you like, and there’s not a bank fee in sight.

Happy emailing!
