If you use the all-new version of Yahoo! Mail, then I’m sure you’ve come across the great new feature we’ve just added for when you compose a new email message (and it’s one that a lot of you have been asking for). If you don’t use the all-new Yahoo! Mail, then there may be a reason to switch now. What am I talking about? Well the new Yahoo! Mail stationery, of course.

From now on, when you compose a new email message, you’ll have the opportunity to add a special touch to your message. And an extra added bonus with the new stationery feature – there are no more ads to distract you when you compose your email.

We’ve added the ability for you to add a whole host of stationery designs to make your emails that much more special. To help you get the most out of the new stationery feature, I’ve put together a slide show that tells you a little more about how to use it. Just click the first image on the left, below…

Happy emailing!
Andrew – Yahoo! Mail Team

P.S. The stationery feature will be available free to all users that are using the new version of Yahoo Mail. If you are not seeing the possibility to add stationery to an email you might have to wait a short while before the feature is turned on for you. As with all of our feature releases, we do it in stages to make sure that it goes smoothly.

What I’d really like and am willing to pay for, is Yahoo! Mail over SSL. How likely is that?

    Thanks,
    Adrian.

    Great work Yahoo Mail UK

Could I make 2 requests for composing an e-mail?
As an Ex-Outlook user could you add the following buttons:

    1) a button to indicate the mail’s importance i.e. Low,Normal or High where High is indicated by a red ! exclamation mark
    2) The option to switch on a “read receipt” for individual mails - sometimes its useful to know when it was read.

    Thanks

    Hey,

Great that you’ve added stationery, and the updates to Mail are really cool, but what about Calendar and Notepad? When are they going to follow with the updates? And when they do get updated (which they need to, Yahoo!’s image is changing … ) can you include ICS subscription features, both for me to subscribe to calendars and others to subscribe to my calendar? That’s one update that’s becoming long overdue.

Oh, and make sure that some of the settings pages get a makeover soon too. Some of them are still using the Classic interface.

    But excellent updates so far.

  • 7. Nicola  |  July 28th, 2008 at 5:40 pm

Do you have to sign up for Yahoo Mail Plus to get this?

    —-
    Hi Nicola,
You do not have to sign up for Mail Plus to get this feature. If you do not see the stationery when you compose new emails, just wait a short while (up to 1 week or so) and the feature will be turned on for you. As with all of our new features, we roll them out to our users gradually, so we can make sure that everything goes smoothly.
Hope that helps. (and sorry that you have to wait)

I’d like a My Attachments folder as it seems to be the only way I can get my attachments to open. Otherwise, it’s great!

    Many thanks

  • 16. Trauts  |  July 29th, 2008 at 4:29 pm

re Mark - message No. 5.

I definitely agree with Mark -if we could have the “read receipt” and “Important” mail buttons this would really be helpful.

  • 17. rob  |  July 29th, 2008 at 6:22 pm

Boy this is great I hated the advertisements keep slowing the whole thing down.. I have asked my friend in the U.S to see if she can get it.. Well done Yahoo and others take note this is how its meant to be!!

  • 25. Sean  |  July 31st, 2008 at 12:10 pm

What about a custom stationery template where you can set-up logos, colours and background images ?
Do you think this might be something to add? Possibly pay for,

  • 26. Hayes Tiger  |  July 31st, 2008 at 6:19 pm

    Hi
Its great news, I sent a test email to hotmail but the background image did not show up and the identical background colour was only visible half of the page in the message reading panel for three line mail.

Yahoo rewarded me with golden inbox for being heavy user of yahoo mail that allows me to send 20mb attachment but sorry to say that feature is no use. When I send 20mb file to another yahoo or hotmail its simply returns back to me saying receiver inobx cannot accept 20mb atachemnt mail.

For 1 reason I like hotmail they allow up to 50 large size photos to attach with email to send to any email address.

Still my number one choice is Yahoo! Thanks for Yahoo UK and Team.

  • 27. Jenny Roberts  |  July 31st, 2008 at 7:32 pm

life without ads is great; please keep it up!

  • 28. Julie  |  August 3rd, 2008 at 12:30 pm

I would like a read receipt and an importance flag also. I am having to apply for jobs and a lot of them are email contact only, it is a worry that they are disappearing into the ether and you’re not sure if they have arrived.

An insert picture feature would be great too!

  • 29. roddy  |  August 3rd, 2008 at 2:09 pm

like the stationery. my brother was confused when it appeared. he asked- what’s with all the colours??? I explained and he loved it!!!! Think you should put calender and memos on to home screen. It would help a whole bunch !!!! thanks xxx

I am trying to copy and paste a logo to use as a signature in my emails but it keeps saying there is an error when I try and save it. I want to include a logo but can’t see a way round it!! Can you help?

    —-
    Hi Cheryl,
You can have a logo in your signature, however you will have to link to it externally. This can be done if you create your signature using the Classic Version of Yahoo Mail. Switch to the Classic version, then go click “Mail Options”, then click Signature. Then you’ll have to use the “Pictures and Graphics” and view the HTML version to add a reference to your logo. This is a fairly technically advanced way to add a logo to your signature, so if the explanation above doesn’t sound clear, ask one of your “nerdy” friends for help.
    Thanks,
    Andrew - Yahoo Mail Team

I want to see my yahoo avatar when I check my email. My friend’s email shows his avatar, but he cannot explain how I can get to see mine. Is the problem because, somehow, I ended up with a US avatar?

  • 39. Mill  |  August 8th, 2008 at 4:24 pm

Thanks a lot. Just what I needed. I love the colours

  • 40. Joy  |  August 9th, 2008 at 8:17 pm

How can I add my own stationery in the same way as the given ones?

  • 41. Dave  |  August 11th, 2008 at 1:59 pm

This stationary is not very printer friendly, uses lots of extra ink. Can the recipient turn it of and just print good old black text on white paper? For recipients on dial up it’s a much larger file to download!

  • 42. SHARKBAIT  |  August 13th, 2008 at 5:42 pm

    need more stationary. like SPORTS!

The mail is great and the new version a lot faster, but what I find a bit annoying is that when I open my mail it does not automatically go to my inbox which for me is the most important. Is this poss?

  • 57. callum  |  August 25th, 2008 at 11:22 am

Everytime I write an email the stationary automatically turns the writing purple, how do I stop this?

    Hi Callum,
All you need to do is to click the “T” button with the color palette at the top of your message. A whole bunch of colors will display, then just click black. The next time you start a new message the system will remember your choice and it will be in black.

Alternatively, you can select “Plain Text” and then all formatting will be thrown away and it will be just plain, black text.
    Hope that helps,
    Andrew

  • 58. anona  |  August 27th, 2008 at 9:05 am

i clicked on the box that says no more ads while you are writing e-mails and just got another advert about yahoo with no option to sign out of the adverts while one is e-mailing.
    i feel unhappy about this

  • 59. Bart  |  August 27th, 2008 at 9:14 am

This new extension is wonderfull! Oh wait.. now in an instance I understead why the figure is called Liam - nice one ;-)

  • 60. Shirley  |  August 30th, 2008 at 9:30 pm

But the ads - mostly for gambling - that fill a great chunk of my small screen while I’m trying to read mail take such an enormous amount of RAM the whole PC grinds to a halt.
I’ve written to you about this, but got no reply, of course.
I guess you must be earning gazzillions of dollars from the ads, so why would you bother listening to mere users.
My guess is that most of the ‘awe-struck admirers’ in the above posts are really the Yahoo marketing department. Who else would think it wonderful that a tiny percentage of the adverts we don’t like have been removed?

  • 61. tichaona mundora  |  September 1st, 2008 at 12:46 pm

    this is nice

I’ve noticed my Mail has been a bit faster recently! Am i just imagining things? Anyway keep up the good work Andrew!

  • 64. Fred Hall  |  September 1st, 2008 at 6:43 pm

I just did and you disappeared! New instead of Compose puzzled me at first.
On attaching, the return to the SEND email and the BAR is eratic. The top half of the BAR only is on view and the rotating circle never stops. I make my own mind up and send and it appears to be received normally. I think the viewing of a received attachment is fussy but that might be my Windows software, it is on VISTA Home and keeps having updates. It was poor to begin with but is now gradually working out.

  • 70. sue  |  September 5th, 2008 at 8:14 am

please will you allow me to write emails without an advert coming in and stopping me. It has become so bad that if it doesn’t stop I will go to another provider. how convenient that this can not ne transmitted.

Love the stationery selection. Makes e-mails much more interesting.Well done all at Yahoo.

  • 73. mcroodi  |  September 7th, 2008 at 2:57 pm

Thanks Yahoo UK, I love the new stationary feature!

Now… I just wish you would give us the ability to “read receipt” as in Outlook. I think this is an important feature in email and also the ability to show an email’s priority eg using the exclamation mark.

    Really do miss those.

But anyway… keep up the good work! :-)

  • 74. Rhonda  |  September 7th, 2008 at 11:11 pm

Wow! Love it!! Yahoo rocks! Now there are EVEN MORE reasons why Yahoo is better than Hotmail lol :) Thanks guys!!

  • 75. Badar Chinnoy  |  September 8th, 2008 at 2:04 am

Delighted to know no more ads to distract me while I compose an email.
Would it be possible to bring all “Unread” mails to the top o the list?

  • 76. YMailUser  |  September 9th, 2008 at 5:55 pm

Contrary to comments on here, please don’t add a priority or a read receipt feature. There is nothing more annoying than somebody else telling you how important they think their email is. I set priority flags on my incoming emails myself. Generally the emails that come in with the highest priority are the least important ;)

Read receipts are also completely pointless. I have always set my email clients to ignore these. If it was a guaranteed system and it worked fine, but it doesn’t.

With the amount of junk email and filtering systems in place, you can’t guarantee that an email will get to its destination. If your email is that important and you haven’t heard back, then email them again. If they still don’t get back to you, chase them up with a phone call. Bitter experience has shown me that email can no longer be totally relied on, as was the case a decade ago.

    Hi Alicia,
Thanks for your comment. To use the stationery feature, you will have to use the Web version of Yahoo! Mail.
    Thanks,
