Just a quickie (in more ways than one)…

We never stop reading your feedback and we couldn’t help notice that some of you were concerned about the speed Yahoo! Mail at times. We passed it onto our engineers, here’s what they did about it…

Installed *brand new hardware* with *double the performance memory* and *double the processing power*

…all of which mean a faster Yahoo! Mail for you. And please note, when we refer to “memory” we’re not talking about the storage space for messages (that’s unlimited, remember). We’re talking about the memory on the hardware at Yahoo! HQ. The more there is, the faster Yahoo! Mail can perform for you.

Here’s what the improvements look like in graphical form - Green is good!!!

Mail Servers

The work’s just been completed so now you can tackle your email with even greater speed and efficiency than before.

And don’t worry, we’re not resting on our laurels - speed and performance are something we’re committed to optimising on an ongoing basis.

Happy emailing
Andrew - Yahoo! Mail Team

P.S. - I hope that you enjoyed this post. There’s lot’s of other great information on this blog, so make sure you come back often to read about all the latest updates, tips and useful information about Yahoo! Mail.

[...] en la infraestructura de los servidores que gestionan el correo de Yahoo! ha hecho que la velocidad de las máquinas se eleve sensiblemente lo que significa que la carga y velocidad del sitio y del correo aumentará sensiblemente. [...]

  • 3. Luca  |  June 6th, 2008 at 8:26 am

Yahoo is the Best Webmail service ever! I’ve been working with Windows Live and MSN and they have always problems. Great Stuff Guys. Thanks!

  • 4. Dave Burdett  |  June 6th, 2008 at 8:30 am

If your fix works and email really is speeded up, that’s a great step forward. Thank you.

  • 5. marion leonard  |  June 6th, 2008 at 9:15 am

You might have made emailing faster with the changes you have made but I do not like the fact that the option not to include the email you are replying to in the reply is no longer there

    Dear Sir /Madam:
    Hi!
I feel that it is a bit harsh to say your service was slow, however it is always good to review and improve under all circumistances.
I appreciate your service a great deal.

    Excellent news.

  • 8. Andrea  |  June 6th, 2008 at 11:17 am

Thanks for this! Indeed had noticed that things were slowed down, good to see that feedback is heard.

Speaking of feedback…a suggestion to connect mail with calendar…

It would be good to be able to FLAG a message for follow up, and have the option to set up a REMINDER in the calendar. Otherwise the flagged message dissapears in my Inbox and I never remember that I flagged it!

    thanks!

Yahoo is like a trusted, true and reliable friend, like the friends that are taken for granted, making things accessible and easy, always there providing support and ideas whenever life needs making easier.
I have used Yahoo for 10 years and I can state for the record that it is the highest accessible design and innovation principals in partnership with great communication and customer service that make Yahoo stand out from the rest.
I have found Yahoo quite simply exemplar in every aspect, from its ongoing development, ease of use and outstanding customer service.
    Thank You Yahoo.

Much quicker, Now well ahead of competitors Thank you!

  • 11. baz  |  June 8th, 2008 at 7:04 pm

Yes, YAHOO! has been a little slow at times, so slow in fact that sometimes I have had to disconnect and try again later.

However when it is good it is very good, I have always put the speed, or lack of it down to the amount of users online at that time rather than blaming YAHOO!

  • 12. Earl of Dunley  |  June 9th, 2008 at 5:47 pm

I have just learned how to use \Email at night school and I think it is amazing very quick Earl

  • 13. Steve  |  June 14th, 2008 at 4:12 pm

not noticed any difference. In fact over the last 4 weeks performance has got worse. I keep getting the message “Unexpected HTTP status code 12152″.

  • 14. Paul  |  June 15th, 2008 at 11:34 am

Generally the speed is good, but there are still many occasions when one gets the most annoying message “you’ve been waiting for 1234.56789 seconds for your message tocome in” when it may have been only a couple of seconds, or 20 seconds or a minute of repeated trying, and never 5 decimal places ! Is it possible to remove this ??

Otherwise I am very happy with yahoo and thank you very much- nothing else in the world is as usueful and so free!!

  • 15. paul & jen  |  June 27th, 2008 at 2:04 pm

I’ve been using yahoo for over 10 years now and ive recently tried using another site but its no way near as good!

So i just want to say YAHOO! is the greatest!!!

  • 21. Roy  |  June 27th, 2008 at 5:44 pm

The way to make yahoo mail faster would be to make the ads load faster, I understand there has to be advertising but its annoying when my mail is ready to go and I am just sitting there waiting for an ad to load before I can do anything.

  • 22. John Jewers  |  June 27th, 2008 at 6:27 pm

I agree with previous comments — I prefer yahoo to any other email service. When are you going broadband?!!

  • 23. Sandy  |  June 27th, 2008 at 6:53 pm

Yahoo mail is good when it actually works unlike the other day when it was down all day, just could not open my mail and was so slow.I do use Yahoo mail more then the other mail providers I have though.

  • 24. mnpitamber  |  June 27th, 2008 at 8:58 pm

Yahoo! email is faster - that’s great, but please make some improvements on the Spam Filter… I’m getting tons and tons of spam and I don’t even give out my email to anyone…

  • 25. coxy  |  June 27th, 2008 at 11:47 pm

    nice work guys and gals!

  • 26. Stewart  |  June 28th, 2008 at 2:24 am

Never mind it being faster, how about sorting out the real problem’s? I’m sick of getting everyone else’s e-mails? there not even address to my e-mail and I still get them?…now you have made it faster, I only hope my finger can go just as fast on the delete button

  • 27. Sakis  |  June 28th, 2008 at 9:25 am

A lot of improvements lately and these are great news!! I experienced some problems with incoming mailing sometime ago. There was a delay up to one day for some certain locations but lately everything is in better shape!Of course YAHOO mail is the BEST and our expectations are as high as to be PERFECT!

  • 28. Roy Mackness  |  June 28th, 2008 at 9:45 am

There have been some problems, but on the whole Yahoo is most adequate. Any improvement that works is good, and normally they do work. Thanks

  • 29. johnbeattie  |  June 28th, 2008 at 11:35 am

all the years i’ve used yahoo never had a problem with speed the only difference i find is that its got more alternatives now than it had, it maybe quicker to those who use other emailing services but as long as i’m with yahoo i’ll always think its fast,
    the best service always YAHOOoooooo…….

  • 30. NICK  |  June 28th, 2008 at 11:59 am

Over the past month I have found Yahoo to be getting closer and slower, sometimes I cannot even raise the web site abd give up - very disappointed.

  • 31. Robert Peake  |  June 28th, 2008 at 12:27 pm

Yahoo messenger is excellent in keeping intouch with our sprerad family But Yahoo mail recently the load is very slow but I still find Yahoo the easiest to use and would reccomend it to all

  • 32. Jason  |  June 28th, 2008 at 3:32 pm

Yup, it was getting too slow at times. It is good that it is back to normal, phew ! Thanks, Yahoo ! This also shows that the suggestions from the users are valuable, and Yahoo should provide an easy-to-reach email for these valuable inputs. Finally, may I request that the next urgent action is to improve the SPAM filter as I still have to clear spam emails everyday. Cheers, and well done.

  • 33. waqar ali detho  |  June 28th, 2008 at 7:13 pm

its good to use yahoo mail it is faster and support more contacts to send mail at the same time..

  • 34. Richard  |  June 28th, 2008 at 9:12 pm

I have two email accounts, one with yahoo and one with Sky. Marks out of ten? Yahoo 9.8, Sky 4.5
Sky is slow, as in snail’s pace, and is not user-friendly at all - keep up the good work, Yahoo, you’re still No.1

  • 35. sylvia  |  June 28th, 2008 at 9:16 pm

wish I could e-mail photos the way you used to be able to with the upload tool on the old yahoo that was great now I can only email 3 or 4 at a time unless I use flikr

  • 36. Lucky Omorodion  |  June 28th, 2008 at 10:05 pm

Without any doubt, yahoo mail is actually the best amog others. Thanks to yahoo but a meaningful hard work is still required to retain this position.

  • 37. M  |  June 28th, 2008 at 11:10 pm

Well Yahoo……..I am really impressed a giant company taking note of what the customer wants,I am pleased that I was obviously not the only one who felt that Yahoo mail was very slow to load, you did something about it great I dont understand the technical bit but I will say that there has been an improvement,so filling out a survey is not always a waste of time.

  • 38. Joe Rice  |  June 28th, 2008 at 11:10 pm

I have noticed when i email it comes up mail seems to be taking longer to load if it is going to improve it great

  • 39. mohamed fairoze  |  June 29th, 2008 at 4:00 am

    Hi Mohamed,
The feature you are talking about has been moved to the all-new version of mail. I’ve posted about how to use the feature here: http://ymailuk.com/blog1/2008/04/15/draft-message-as-form-template/

If you need help on how to switch to the new version of Yahoo Mail, you can find out how here:
    http://ymailuk.com/blog1/2007/11/01/switch-to-new-mail/

    Hope that helps,

I don’t know how to contact Yahoo to tell them that I cannot print out any emails direct– so I am using this venue.
I have contacted HP Photosmart ( I have their printer) and they say the problem is with Yahoo can anyone help please?

    Hi Frederick,
I can suggest that you contact our customer care team. You can send your problem by filling out the form that you can see on this page: http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/forms_index.html

  • 42. Denise  |  June 29th, 2008 at 6:59 pm

Yes, I agree that Yahoo is the best out there! I’ve been a happy user for many years and Yahoo has never let me down. My only girpes are:

    a. the online instant help service takes a looong time cos your agents seem to fall asleep before answering!

    b. bring back the facility which allows us to save our drafts, even when sent. At the moment, they are now disappearing when we send them. Yes, I know I can find them again in my ’sent’ folder, but it was so much easier to be able to keep our drafts without fearing their disappearance once sent!

Other than that…a fab service. Keep it up!

  • 43. DR. D.A.JOHN WASE  |  June 29th, 2008 at 8:13 pm

Yahoo has always worked satisfactorily except for problems with MY computer. My biggest problem now is inaccurate typing after a stroke! Keep up the good work.
    Yours,
    John Wase

  • 44. cfee56  |  June 29th, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Give us back the option to reply without the old message text. Why have you took this away ?. Yahoo anawers is full of people complaining about it, can’t understand the reasoning for this give us the option at least. Great service otherwise Thanks

  • 45. phil  |  June 29th, 2008 at 9:29 pm

I have used Yahoo! mail and Gmail for years now and like them both.Yahoo is very easy to use and appealing to the eye, but Gmail is faster.

    yahoo wins hands down!!!!!!!!

  • 56. Guy Schofield  |  June 30th, 2008 at 11:04 pm

Mail seems ok, but accessing and working with CONTACTS has become extremely slow recently. Are you working to speed up contacts also?

  • 57. tony  |  July 1st, 2008 at 12:06 am

A very good service.!! However, attaching files sometimes takes hours…..yes….hours.!!! Please speed things up for all of us.!!
    Cheers :)

  • 58. June  |  July 1st, 2008 at 9:14 am

I’m not sure about yahoo getting faster - I’ve had no end of trouble opening it up just lately - so far this morning it’s took over an hour !!! Also the contacts have not opened so even if I can open it I can’t send or reply to any emails as it says I have no contacts. Its been 2-3 weeks now of problems.

I agree on the whole yahoo is good but come sort the problems out & get it running correctly. It’s pointless if you can’t open anything

  • 59. Charles  |  July 1st, 2008 at 9:40 am

Currently I am not so happy. Each time after opening and reading a message, when I want to close the message the screen turns to “loading” and stays there until I actually log-out of Yahoo.
    Charles

    Hi Charles,
I’m sorry to hear that your having troubles. In fact, I’m suffering from the same issue (frustrating isn’t it). You don’t have to logout and log back in to fix it… Just hit the refresh button on your browser. That solves the issue for me.

Our engineers are putting a fix in place, so you shouldn’t experience the issue for much longer. If you do, please contact our customer care here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/forms_index.html
    Thanks,
    Andrew - Yahoo! Mail Team

  • 63. Yasmin  |  July 1st, 2008 at 6:50 pm

Glad to hear you are working to improve mail.  I have to say that I have had a lot of problems just lately with Yahoo mail.  I am currently living in Cyprus so email is an essential way of keeping in contact with family and friends. Recently I have had many problems logging into UK Mail and cannot get through to anyone in Customer Services either.  I never know if it is a known problem or if it is something specific to me.  I assume it is a known problem as it often resolves itself but sometimes it is a couple of days before I can get into my email again.  Have you got any suggestions?  Or contact numbers that I can use?Kind regards,Yasmin

  • 64. Baz  |  July 1st, 2008 at 7:47 pm

Well done on the upgrade, however, you service never seemed slow in the first place, but there is always room for improve .

  • 65. Doreen  |  July 1st, 2008 at 9:53 pm

Why do I get targetted with viagra and gambling spam? I’m not a man and have never gambled on line or off it!. I keep getting the same spammers by name too. Can’t you stop the known names even coming into the spam folder, please? It’s getting worse with c 60+ x day.
I still crash too often but apart from that I’m satisfied. Thank you for the upgrade.

  • 66. fw  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 9:46 am

yahoo is one of my fav email providers but lately it doesnt show a date on the mail i am sending until the following day. i like to keep record of what i am sending and recieving.
Apart from that i am happy with the service.

  • 67. Larry  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 10:10 am

Anyone who thinks Yahoo is still slow should try Tiscali or Talktalk;you’d soon come back to Yahoo.

  • 68. John  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 10:32 am

Not had any spam for some months now and even what did get through then was a minor irritation - excellent service giving me everything I need

  • 69. Kiran  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 11:26 am

Yahoo is the best - I have used it for years - would never dream of using any of the others which I have tried out but always preferred Yahoo. Keep up the good work.

  • 73. Barbara  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 1:47 pm

I can’t honestly say I have found it faster. If anything it has slowed down.

  • 74. Pamela Borthwick  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 2:10 pm

I think Yahoo is the best but my mail is so slow so if it can be made faster would be delighted. Specially like the news. Thanks.

  • 75. Pamela Borthwick  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 2:18 pm

Have to be honest have a problem with ADSL as have changed over to BT and things not functioning properly yet but if yahoo can be a bit faster would be delighted. I read your news each day and find you are ahead of everybody. Keep up the good work. Pam.

  • 78. jsbasford  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 7:35 pm

Great service, good speed. Pleasure to have you for my internet service. I had a three letters of my last provider in th eservice name one was an O. I got half the speed that I get at the present time. And yes it cost me £29.99 a month.
After having a major stroke at a tender young age I required some tink to get my brain active. I am getting there.
    Thanks for your good service.
    One happy novice internet usuer

  • 79. mortimer  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 9:33 pm

I have been with yahoo mail for years and I did find it slow but it
seems to have speeded up lately, my only gripe is the 10MB
limit on file transfers. On lycos i have unlimited file transfer, I
feel that this is an area where yahoo is weak and should be
doing something to address this issue.

  • 80. joshua bundi  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 11:35 pm

you can not compare yahoo mail with any other-, its the best.

  • 81. Ashutosh Joshi  |  July 3rd, 2008 at 3:38 am

I have been using Yahoo Mail for quite some time now and its good. Its nice to know that our feedback is looked into and the surveys are effective.

    Thanks!!

Is there any way for me to know when I opened my account with Yahoo. I know its been close to 9 years, but the exact date will help.

  • 82. MANI S TIRUVALLA  |  July 3rd, 2008 at 5:57 am

    YAHOO THE GREATEST.

  • 83. Jayne  |  July 3rd, 2008 at 6:23 am

I use Yahoo Go! and Yahoo is the best. The problems seem to be more on the service provider side. Keep up the good work.

  • 84. David Edmonds  |  July 3rd, 2008 at 6:48 am

The browser web based service is very good. Pretty sure it’s the best one going.

Although I guess less people use the SMTP based connections, this is the area I find slowest, the server responses often time out the connection (Outlook etc.) when in the far east.

    However it’s overall pretty decent.

  • 85. olusegun  |  July 3rd, 2008 at 9:00 am

I have read all the satisfied customers testimonials so what goes wrong in Turkey where we live. I have to use front page to read emails because I can’t pick up the website.

    What’s the problem?

Some days I can’t get on for 2/3 days I’m thinking about going over to Hotmail.

    Your comments will be appreciated.

Yahoo has been my very reliable companion for over 10 years now, and has not disappointed me in all those years.

    Keep it up team!!!!!

One feature I look forward to; ability to filter the mails in my inbox using one or more filter criteria such as by sender’s email address, by receipt date, by size, by attachment, by matching a text string contained in any part of the email (i.e. email address, subject, or body).

    Great work!!!

    Izu

I seem to be having loads of problems getting the newer YahooMail to run and have been automatically switched back to Classic.
Oddly enough, my friend could access the newer YahooMail from my PC and using the same browser.
I have followed the instructions to run the new YahooMail but with no avail.
Feeling a bit fed up now.

    Hi Sharon,
I’ve had a look at your issue. You’re one of about 15 or so users that are experiencing this issue. You’re getting a cookie mismatch error if I’m not mistaken. Engineers are looking into the issue and we hope we’ll find the fix soon. I hope you’ll bear with us as we try to fix the problem.
    Thanks,
    Andrew - Yahoo Mail Team

  • 94. Suresh  |  July 4th, 2008 at 4:22 am

I don’t know why but I like using Yahoo! mail rather than others. I’ve got accounts on other providers as well but Yahoo! somehow is the best one for me.

  • 95. frances bonner  |  July 4th, 2008 at 7:01 am

Yes I find Yahho very very slow recently and although I would like to change to a quicker page I do like Yahoo so it would be great if it becomes quicker. thank you

  • 96. Ali  |  July 4th, 2008 at 7:13 am

Quite possibly it’s a faster algorithm, but your new ‘destructive’ sorting procedure makes it impossible to view messages from a specific person in date order. Extremely annoying.

  • 97. claire  |  July 4th, 2008 at 5:05 pm

I like having a choice of both mail classic and the new Yahoo mail because I like them both for different reasons so please keep the choice!!

  • 98. sandra galapagos  |  July 4th, 2008 at 5:06 pm

Thanks for speeding up.Could you make the sending of photos easier;ie,select photos- possibly 20 or more then send in one batch. Have just been shown Msn and that does it.- Prefer to use Yahoo for mail though.

  • 99. Edward Geary  |  July 4th, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Thanks a thrillian–You are super guys at yahoo mail and we all love you for such a wonderful service with speed and efficiency.

  • 100. Joe  |  July 5th, 2008 at 5:22 am

you need to do something about Spam, spam filters dont work. Gmail is slower but at least I dont get 10 to 20 mails a day trying to sell me viagra. I’m not impressed.

Yahoo keep messing things up with “Improvements” Stock Market Boards hasnt worked properly for 2 years since the last “Improvements”. Fix the stuff that doesnt work rather than messing up the stuff that does.

    Many thanks,

Excellent news regarding the investment in upgrading your hardware. Whenever Yahoo! was slow for me it wasn’t slow enough to make me feel I need to complain. I very much like the design and happy to hear about the improvements. Thank you.

  • 105. Nan B.  |  July 5th, 2008 at 11:06 am

For over 11 years, I prefer the usability/design of Yahoo, over other web-based email programs. Thanks.

Nice to hear that you have upgraded to your equipment; however, I’ve been noticing a decline in performance over the last couple of weeks. Could this be related? About 40% of the time, messages have trouble loading now, i.e., opening in their own window or just opening all together — often without error messages. I’ve also had 2 messages just disappear completely on opening, and I had to ask the sender to resend. On the plus side, one friend’s messages used to take days to get to me– now they arrive instantly. That’s the only improvement that is obvious to me as a user.

To agree with a previous comment, I have rallied for improvement on “flagging” messages too. There are many ways to affect performance here…I’m anxious to see what your creative genius comes up with!

Thanks for the communication and hard work!

  • 106. Oman  |  July 5th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

    cheers

  • 110. loveinmyname  |  July 6th, 2008 at 4:03 pm

I have read all the comments on speed slowness etc,I am sure a lot depends on your download speeds from your server likewise it depends on your pc set up etc, also what you may be using at the same time you are downloading I find it very good to use and for me it gets 10 out of 10 so please carry on the good work all of you on Yahoo are doing. Danny

  • 113. Matt  |  July 7th, 2008 at 9:57 am

I very much prefer my Yahoo email service and I don’tmind he adverts that appear but I dislike the mouse-over action that intrudes in my emails as I am trying to read them. This mouse-ovr action is also present on some of the home page adverts. I understand Yahoo use advertisers to sponsor their service bu can anything be done to reduce this mouse-ove acton.

  • 114. Anita  |  July 7th, 2008 at 11:46 am

  • 116. ALEX GEORGIOU  |  July 7th, 2008 at 2:53 pm

I have various Emails, but in my opinion Yahoo tops the lot including efficiency and speed. As for your faster Email, I think you are aiming to reach the stars. In my business I totally rely on Yahoo mail and ignore the rest. Well done.
    ALEX

  • 117. john  |  July 7th, 2008 at 5:06 pm

  • 118. Dill  |  July 7th, 2008 at 9:29 pm

Last 6 months have been an absolute headache in being able to get any consistency with reception. Everyone I have phoned has blamed someone else for the reception and connection problems.
Finally, dont know whether its a coincidence but with Yahoos recent system updates have im proved my connection problems, fingers crossed lets hope this has fixed it.

  • 119. Pete  |  July 8th, 2008 at 6:47 am

The worse thing with yahoo mail is that it does not automatically update when new messages are received. Having a disability means have to continually click to check is very painful.

It’s even worse since the pop access ceased - this was since we had to put the @yahoo.co.uk in - cannot access now in ANY pop program

You say it will be faster - that I can’t beleive till I see it beginning to not trust ANYTHING Yahoo says

    Hi Pete,
Sorry to hear that you are having problems with the POP access with mail. Rest assured our engineers are working on the problem and we expect full service to be back up and running in a short while. You should still be able to POP your mail and send via SMTP, however you may experience delays (or occasionally receive an error) when sending mail via SMTP. Watch this blog for updates when we are able to fully fix the issue. Also please make sure you check your POP/SMTP settings: http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/pop/pop-28.html
    Thanks,
    Andrew - Yahoo! Mail Team

as someone new to email i can only say i am delighted with Yahoo

  • 125. Dan  |  July 9th, 2008 at 8:53 am

the only thing that lets yahoo mail down for me, is the fact that there is no audible alert when mail arrives, as there was when i was with aol, come on yahoo, it all may be faster, but when you have people with poor eyesight, they dont always see the icon telling them they have mail, surely this is not that difficult to add an audible warning,

  • 126. Penny Wood  |  July 9th, 2008 at 10:37 am

Please put the photomail back. I’ve just got married and have had loads of photos to send and I really do prefere the old way of putting photos into letters where you could see the actual picture and not just an attatchment some people wont open ANY attatchments so they loose out on pictures. PLEASE put it back
    Thanks

I find the mail speeds OK.But the Spam protection to be very poor.I get mail in my box thats not even addressed to me how come?
I block the spamers but can only do 500 and the amount i get each day its not good.
Give us more help in the Spam front or some new way of blocking certain words like drugs or Pharmacy etc.Like you can do on AOL.

  • 135. Andy  |  July 9th, 2008 at 11:13 pm

  • 145. Ray Smith  |  July 10th, 2008 at 10:59 am

Thanks for the update on email speed. It has not been a great problem for me.

More urgent to takle I would say is the growing problem and number of spam emails.

Could you not set up an automatic reply to these jerks to desist or their name will be passed on the relevant authorities ?

    Best Regards,

    Ray

  • 151. ian  |  July 10th, 2008 at 6:53 pm

I have been using Yahoo from 1992 and I still use it today because it easy to get the mail site and save and print my emails and the spam letters are easy to remove as outlook express doesnot get all the spam emails every time you log in there so i have to keep telling it that it is spam

    Yahoo is for me

  • 155. Sriram  |  July 11th, 2008 at 6:41 am

Your speed is too low on the beta version. Better features can be added. If the messenger is linked to the mail then it will be cool.

  • 156. David  |  July 11th, 2008 at 9:23 am

Great to see Yahoo keeping improve but it seems open the gate to spamers wider and it is getting worse and I find it very annoyed. I tried using filters and block addresses but seem it do not deter them at all.

Spam button seem not make any good function are they?

Also I been told I will see rolox, not sure if it what is called, it is sort of blue folder next to senders on the left sides of inbox to see who are in my address book or not, still not there for a long time. Will it show up eventually or not?

  • 157. R. Townsend  |  July 11th, 2008 at 11:23 am

Yahoo is the best site going. Its really good to know that when I spam items I never get anymore mails from those sites. Keep up the good work.

  • 160. Steve Williams  |  July 11th, 2008 at 5:34 pm

Yahoo mail rocks! As long as Microsoft don’t buy yahoo I will always use yahoo mail for all my emailng convience!

  • 161. Cecil  |  July 11th, 2008 at 6:43 pm

The only problem I have had with my Yahoo Mail, which is otherwise great, is that occasionally whilst I am in the middle of typing an email it suddenly disappears and is nowhere to be found, meaning that I have to start my message message all over again! It’s as though one of the letter keys of my keyboard acts as a ‘delete’ stroke! Most frustrating! Has anyone any idea what might be wrong?
    Thank you!

  • 162. sam  |  July 11th, 2008 at 7:39 pm

i think it would be a great idea for there to be a program on your desktop to quckly accsess email when needed

  • 163. Steve Harding  |  July 11th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

I have been extremely frustrated with both Yahoo as a Homepage and Yahoo Mail for the past few months due to very poor performance. The news that you have upgraded your servers is good but I am surprised that a company of your size have not used even basic Capacity Management to size the growth of your servers correctly in the first place.Every decent IT department knows that demand will outgrow Server Infrastructure at some point and therefore size capacity appropriately. I hope you have got it right this time, If not then I suggest you look at the competence of the server team.

  • 164. Steve Harding  |  July 11th, 2008 at 8:34 pm

Needless to say, Yahoo and Yahoo Mail when it is fast is still the very best, great design, Thanks

  • 165. TGD  |  July 11th, 2008 at 9:32 pm

  • 166. linda  |  July 12th, 2008 at 1:50 am

I’m really new to the internet, but since I got my ‘Dongle!!’ I’m hooked.
Yahoo you are absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much, you’ve made my computing so much easier - I smitten by you!

  • 167. John  |  July 12th, 2008 at 2:01 am

Yahoo you must be good, it’s 2.58am GMT and I’ve only just managed to get onto my computer after my wife has decided she’s ‘done’ for the day. Seriously though, the changes you have made are fantastic, keep up the good work and thanks.

  • 168. Shaik  |  July 12th, 2008 at 10:34 am

Yahoo mail is the best. I have acccounts with other mail services but yahoo is unbeatable.
Just one small grouse though. Why is there always the cookie mismatch problem? This happens whenever I load my yahoo mail in the new format.

  • 169. MADHUACE  |  July 12th, 2008 at 10:36 am

YAHOO MAIL IS THE BEST I HAVE BEEN USING IT FOR YEARS AND SEEN A LOT OF GOOD IMPROVEMENTS.

  • 172. Barbara  |  July 12th, 2008 at 12:21 pm

  • 174. Peter Astwick  |  July 12th, 2008 at 2:14 pm

Yahoo is very good and I have an “@ymail” address as well.
However I am getting annoyed by the ever increasing amount of Spam CLEARLY not addressed to me but being delivered. That is my only complaint about an otherwise brilliant concept.Far better than hotmail or VirginMedia.
Please ask your Spam postman to be more carefull

  • 175. M  |  July 12th, 2008 at 5:56 pm

I am missing the tickable adding contacts feature to select a few contacts only. The holding shift key is selecting contacts next to each other, not random selection across the address book.
Bring it back please. Otherwise, compliments on a great service.

  • 176. keith  |  July 12th, 2008 at 7:27 pm

  • 178. Ms Lind  |  July 13th, 2008 at 5:43 am

To me, Yahoo is simply my main e-mail, and has been with me for as long as I has been online, more or less. Sure, like all it has had problems, but it has always been fixed too.

Sites that do not accept Yahoo emails for sign-up (they are out there) makes me grumble a bit as I never have relied on my ISP provided email — I have traded ISPs, but not my Yahoo e-mail. I have even passed on sites that refuse Yahoo — I have had other e-mail services for such things, but they all die after a while as I do not really use them.

So, thank you for keeping this good service running! (c:

Why am I getting other peoples mail?

  • 183. Annie  |  July 13th, 2008 at 1:46 pm

I really love Yahoo, like everyone else. But… I do miss the possibility to save e-mail texts to my computer. Why is it only easy to do for attachments?

I THANK YAHOO.FOR BRINGING THIS SERVICE TO THE BEST OF EVERY BODY.

  • 192. Andrew  |  July 14th, 2008 at 10:19 am

an excellent e-mail service for what i need it for.

and it’s great news that it’s got faster (just need to get BT to sort out the phone linee in my area.)

also it’s the only web based e-mail which works that same on Firefox 3.0 as it does on firefox 2.0.

    thank you.

  • 193. Dayaram Pai  |  July 14th, 2008 at 10:51 am

Congratulations. 7.In my opinion Yahoo is fantastic and most dependable. Keep it up.

  • 194. Norman Roger Isbell  |  July 14th, 2008 at 10:53 am

It might be faster but I still have to sign in each time and no one will explain why - oh yes I’ve ticked the two weeks box. No effect
    Googlemail is better.

  • 195. tracey murphy  |  July 14th, 2008 at 12:44 pm

Thanks a million , i had a problem with attachments at certain times they just would not attach a right pain it was , but now its all back to normal keep up the good work

  • 196. Idah  |  July 14th, 2008 at 1:19 pm

Yahoo is a great webpage but is becoming slower and slower by day. Mail classic is very slow and needs great improvements. Attachments taking too much time to download and early hours of the morning the yahoomail website is not easily accessible. Your subscriber base is increasing but your network upgrades are taking longer or are failing to meet the challenge of increased subcriber base. Please do something, fast and we expect you to be the best site ever. Each household has its own problems. We know you can solve yours at a faster rate than fellow counterparts!

    Cheers

I have found during the past few months a good progress on improving frames and speed, but to be honest, there are may improvements that yahoo need to impliment before yahoo mail page can be called perfect

  • 198. veronica adams  |  July 14th, 2008 at 3:26 pm

I have been with yahoo over four years now and i think they are first class many thanks.

  • 199. Sue  |  July 14th, 2008 at 4:53 pm

Is anyone else having problems getting into their in box, as I routinely have problems oepning my email messages. Log in is fine, but when I click to open my inbox, nothing happens, and it takes several more clicks and minutes to reach my emails.
Is this anything to do with the advertisements which are popping up in the email section at the moment?
    With thanks

  • 200. Joseph Bennett.  |  July 14th, 2008 at 5:57 pm

I have been with yahoo for several years now and I like it very much easy to use and not many problems like other servers.
and yes, it is fast compared with your rivals, good service keep it up, thanks Norman Bennett Folkestone Kent. UK

  • 201. Maureen White  |  July 14th, 2008 at 11:22 pm

yes yahoo is quicker! but the amount of spam I get is ridiculous, & very annoying, keep up the good work yahoo would never change. thanks

  • 202. Parmy Nanra  |  July 15th, 2008 at 10:55 am

Excellent.. Yahoo!! email is much much better that tutti-mail!

I’ve had issue’s with loading times with parts of my email but now you’re bulking up your infrastructure - this can only be good news.

    Thumbs up Yahoo!!!

  • 203. DEBBIE PHILLIPS  |  July 15th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

Email is at times horrendous an very infuriating at how slow it can be, I use it for work and at times have had to turn the whole thing off and start again which means i waste alot of time and alot of money i might add. When it does work properly its great which is like most things really

  • 204. Jon  |  July 15th, 2008 at 4:11 pm

Great news. Just got to sort out all that spam mail we get sent - especially those from yahoo customers!

  • 205. Leone  |  July 15th, 2008 at 6:28 pm

Great job on the speed Yahoo! However I would like to repeat what others have pointed out in the Spam issue.

My story is that out of the blue (about 3 months ago) I suddenly started to receive tons & tons of spam directly into my inbox! I love Yahoo! Mail but it is really getting ridiculous the amount of Spam that I and others have been receiving and so much so that I could switch. What’s worse is that I would love to open my mail via outlook exress but have been told that I can only do that AFTER having made a paid subscribtion to the Mail Plus!!!

    —-
    Hi Jenni,
Sorry to hear about the Spam issue you’re experiencing. I can assure you that we’re looking into the cause of the sudden influx of spam from all of our users who report it. As for using outlook express to read your email, I’m afraid as a user with an @yahoo.com email adress, you do have to sign up for Mail Plus. Users in the UK that have @yahoo.co.uk email adresses can POP their mail for free.
    Thanks,
    Andrew - Yahoo Mail Team

  • 206. E.Davdson  |  July 16th, 2008 at 4:52 am

My problem has been to get Yahoo to work at all, so I can’t iimagine what it would have been like before the upgrade. WHile there are a lot of users in China where I am based, other websites I have tried are not so affected.

As a result I have a back up e-mail service by another provider which I am using more and more

  • 207. Sunita  |  July 16th, 2008 at 5:15 am

I’m absolutely facinated with Yahoo services. It is the most user friendly e-mail web. As it Is, it was too good but the fact that you all are constantly working to improve on that, to enticipate your user’s needs, fancies is something
    “Marvelouse” to say the least.

Who says ” one can only do one’s best, not better than that?”
Well you, dear freinds, have prooven this wrong.

Excellent job! Keep it up and never ever think of not being there permanently.

    THANK YOU.

  • 208. Agness  |  July 16th, 2008 at 6:37 am

I love my Yahoo mail because I can get it on my mobile phone. So when I can’t get to a computer I can still check my messages.Like when I come to Spain and visit my friends I can still keep in touch with my friends in the UK.Nice one Yahoo keep it up.

  • 211. Mike  |  July 16th, 2008 at 9:22 am

I have lost the spellchecker and fonts toolbar etc!

    —-
    Hi Mike,
Souns like you need to be using the “rich text” editor to get the fonts toolbar. If you’re using classic mail - you should see a link called “Rick Text” above the compose window. You can set this as a default option in the “Mail Options” at the top right of your window.
    Thanks,
    Andrew - Yahoo Mail Team

  • 214. Peter Astwick  |  July 16th, 2008 at 11:32 pm

Hello - I’m here again complaining about Spam
My Spam box tonight had sixty two (YES 62) emails.I took the trouble to check them all to find that ony twelve (12) were actually addressed to me aand the rest had all been incorrectly sent to my box
    WHY?
Surely there is something drastically wrong for this to be continually happening

  • 215. MAIMO GIL  |  July 17th, 2008 at 7:11 am

Yahoo mail has stood the test of time. Easy to use and faster than most of the mail services. Kudos to the Yahoo team and more especially to their technical staff. Thanks

It’s been loading since morning and it’s frustrating not being able to chat with my buddies, pls explain what is happening!!!

Funny enough, i can chat on @yahoo.com, this begs the question, what is happening with @yahoo.co.uk????

  • 217. Paul Miners  |  July 17th, 2008 at 10:44 am

Yahoo is one of the better sites around. This ste is well constructed has good graphic apeal, good feeds and allows us the users to make good use of our ” Space” Perhaps some of the obligatory adverts are a bit of a damm nuance but I guess finance has to be raised some how. A faster version would be great!

i have been using Yahoo for more than 6 years my alternate Email is ____@yahoo.co.uk i suppose i am using this one from 1999 if i am not wrong.

I have seen a drastic changes in Yahoo’s approach in changing the platform of Emailing with the storage capacity.

I can bet that no one is better than YAHOO.

“YAHOO is the BEST OF THE BEST”

    No replacement for the same.

I feel proud having as my personal business ID.

  • 222. patricia andrews  |  July 17th, 2008 at 2:46 pm

  • 223. stupid cupid  |  July 17th, 2008 at 3:16 pm

hello yahoo mail. you are so much better than hotmail.

  • 224. gene  |  July 17th, 2008 at 3:43 pm

AOL is so much faster in nearly every way. Why not try to emulate their standard?-

  • 225. Chrissy  |  July 17th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

I hope that by faster you mean that mail gets to it’s destination quicker rather than the speed at which a page loads. Because the former is the only problem I have had. That - and with the latest changes - not being able to block unopened spam, then check the blocked addresses to see the senders address. We now actually have to open a mail to see the senders address and/or to block it. Not a good move yahoo! And one which will add to the spam - plus make us less secure.

  • 226. graham clarke  |  July 17th, 2008 at 8:44 pm

So you say that you have speeded up the service on yahoo mail. This is of course relative to before. The greatest problem is your insisteing upon my tolerating advertisements while i am accessing my mail. If you want to insert advertisements on site, fine, but please have a little respect for your clients and allow me to access my mailwithout having to wait while different cookies download and intefere with my activities. The increase in speed would attract many more users if they knew that they would not have to wait on advertisers imposing themselves on them.

  • 227. Diran  |  July 17th, 2008 at 10:16 pm

i really love yahoo because its so user friendly and easy to understand.Ever since ave started using yahoo since around 2001 i still havent seen any mail server that is better

  • 228. G.  |  July 17th, 2008 at 11:59 pm

  • 229. Roque N Barreto  |  July 18th, 2008 at 4:01 am

Very pleased to have the upgraded version. Thank you Yahoo!! and thank you for the Extra Storeage….Too!!!!. all the best to keep up with Time.

  • 230. Szymon  |  July 18th, 2008 at 9:59 am

I agree only with those opinions above, which prove that yahoo mail did not speed up a bit. Since the very beginning of using yahoo mail I have had frequent problems. Due to some of them I had to switch to a different mail account. Now I check yahoo mail only occassionally to inform senders about my new mail or change subscriptions. I did not notice any change in speed of opening or sending messages or changing options. I am sorry to say that what you claim about improvements is just a piece of marketing play and nothing else

  • 231. Bashabishop  |  July 18th, 2008 at 1:13 pm

Simply outstanding fast and a example others should follow suit,Been with all the rest and still keep coming back to Yahooooooooo?.A service you never seem to find these costly days and all for free, what can one say.Only Thank you to all the Guys n Girls that have made it possible without you like many organisations Yahoo would not be the strengh and key player in this field.
    Well done,
    And Thank you.

Today I had 37 emails in the Spam box of which only 6 were addressed to me.Some were not even remotely close to my email name.
    WHY (again)
Sack the postman and get one who can actually read

  • 234. SHASHA MARLEY  |  July 19th, 2008 at 6:26 am

What are you saying, YAHOO? You telling me your webmail was slow?…Please!!!!!!!! YAHOO WEBMAIL is the very best I’ve ever encountered. You’re always and forever number One, no two ways about that. Big Up YAHOO! One Love everytime.

  • 235. Jeffrey Lutaaya  |  July 19th, 2008 at 9:07 am

    esp yahoomail chat… u guz r great… big up!

  • 236. harry  |  July 19th, 2008 at 11:16 am

No, it is not faster, it is slower. The page wont fully load until it has downloaded all the trackers and adverts. This is a waste of time because I use adblocker and can not see them anyway.

All I have is a slow to the point of unusable mail service. And before you blame me for your poor performance, I have a 24Mb connection.

Also I do not like webmail. With every other mail server I use, including gmail, I can access them through my email client, thunderbird. Yahoo is the only one that will not allow this.

    Hi Harry,
Thanks for your comment. As a @yahoo.co.uk user you are able to access and send your mail using a client like Outlook or Thunderbird. From you mailbox click the link for “Options” then click “POP and Forwarding” from the list of options. You can set up your email client from there.
    Hope that helps.

  • 240. Roger Jones  |  July 19th, 2008 at 7:24 pm

Would it be possible to increase the size we are able to send attachments. I wanted to email out our newsletter, it included pictures. It is 12,108 KB in PDF format. Or is there any other way to deal with large documents?

    —-
    Hi Roger,
As a Mail Plus user you can send attachments up to 20Megabytes in size. There is a small yearly fee associated with Mail Plus accounts - £11.95/year. Just be aware that some of your recipients might not be able to receive attachments that are 20MB in size.
    Hope that helps.
    Andrew - Yahoo Mail Team

  • 241. Martin  |  July 20th, 2008 at 7:21 am

I have noticed the recent speed of access. We certainly needed the improvements. Thanks.

However, I agree with the sentiments of No. 24 above. The next thing that must be “fixed” is preventing the tons of spam. Especially those from obvious fraudsters eg the supposed banks and building societies etc.

  • 242. Tatiana Webster  |  July 20th, 2008 at 2:34 pm

May be faster.. but I cannot get my addresses automatically as I start name of recipient.. this function comes and goes, without explanation…Please make it work!! Thanks in advance

  • 243. David  |  July 20th, 2008 at 8:43 pm

Fingers crossed the slowness is fixed. It has been dire at timestimes here in UK during the day- up to 10 minutes to load, and on a freshly booted PC. July was particularily bad, I thought I was going to have to take the pain of migration
    cheers
    David

  • 244. Bill  |  July 20th, 2008 at 9:26 pm

I think its getting slower. Certainly haven’t noticed any improvement at all. It seems to have slowed up since you started the row with MS

  • 254. fernman  |  July 21st, 2008 at 4:54 pm

It was about time we had some improvements. Next can you start working on cutting down the amount of spam that gets through? It’s increased a lot in the last few months. Most of it is just pure [censored]. As it’s often the same ones again and again, it suggests to me Yahoo’s filter just isn’t effective when we click on them as Spam, in spite of your claims.

  • 255. Hannah  |  July 21st, 2008 at 6:26 pm

I do not really use my yahoo account anymore because it is really slow. All my spam emails come to my Inbox which is really annoying.

  • 265. eleanor ryan  |  July 22nd, 2008 at 4:15 pm

I personally feel that the yahoo speed at the moment is perfectly good, but could use a few more changes to the way things work.like the calendar. If for instance you put down’Nannys birthday’on the 29th of January it could flash on your screen a couple of days before her birthday
so people can have time to get redy for the occasion .Not yhat you could forget such an important date ! (sorry nanny!)
but yes it is a good idea for slower computers to have a faster service.

  • 266. Teejay  |  July 22nd, 2008 at 4:43 pm

I started out my yahoo! mail with another email service, which I would rather keep to myself.

After about a month without logging on to both, the other ebox was frozen but m’Yahoo! was INTACT! So the decision was made for me.

Ever since, m’YAHOO HAD ONLY GOTTEN BETTER N BETTER AND THEN UNLIMITED! YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • 267. Kantilal Parmar  |  July 22nd, 2008 at 5:39 pm

I could not read my Email messages so I changed to Classic and thank God the problem is solved.
Now I will change my comment that yahoo is wonderful.
    Thank you, Yahoo.

  • 268. Ronan  |  July 22nd, 2008 at 6:02 pm

Great you’ve upgraded your memory! Never really had an issue with speed on yahoo and the new mail version’s spam filtering is much much better than the older version, Congrats to the team!

Just on another note for Yahoo in general but it affects the mail too, Your Adserve ads cause a lot of issues as they have to load before the page loads fully (this isn’t a yahoo issue per say but the advertisers server)

To those getting timeouts trust me its not yahoo’s servers causing the issue as their response time even during peak traffic is fantastic atm, your issue is a local issue, wether your computer or your ISP

    Cheers
    Ronan

  • 271. James  |  July 23rd, 2008 at 8:45 am

Great, but on problem, How mnay sers can this handle. I suppose the more users, the mre slowness. However as yahoo offers a free POP service in the UK (and not in the US), you could just use thunderbird or outlook. I really do like Yahoo. Keep up the good work Yahoo!!

Actually I have seen more improvements because I can now brouse on my mobile phone any time any where. And I say a BIG congratulations to your engineers who have worked hard to see things go fine. Once more CONGRATULATIONS! for this upgrade.

i have been using yahoo for years. it is the best mail i have used.

  • 274. Reashlin  |  July 23rd, 2008 at 10:53 am

Does this mean with all the new that mail plus users can now get IMAP support.

IMAP alone would be reason enough for me to subscribe. TBH I would pay the £11.99 a year for IMAP alone.

Another quick point - Is it possible for the Yahoo! devs to get together with the Opera dev teams. Opera have made leaps and bounds into getting Yahoo! Mail working but its still not quite right.

  • 275. Dheeraj  |  July 23rd, 2008 at 11:51 am

I have been on yahoo (kept changing accounts but been an avid yahoo user for it provided a whole bunch of great services like album and chat) for a very long time now, almost 7 years now and the service has been improving since the day I got an account; from faster access to unlimited space. It’s wonderful… Being an @yahoo.co.uk user, I would like you to change the settings for the sign out option, every time we hit sign out button on out mail page, we are asked to sign out completely on the following window (unlike @yahoo.com where you are signed out at a single click)… apart from that, I don’t see any flaws in your mail and thankfully, I never received any spam on my mail (and wouldn’t want to get any in the future)…

    Great job guys.

I’d just like to second “8. Andrea | June 6th, 2008 at 11:17 am”‘s comment about syncing the Y calendar to Y mail. This would be ideal in order not to forget & lose flagged messages.

  • 279. melvin johnson  |  July 23rd, 2008 at 9:40 pm

YAHOO MAIL SAY IT IS MUCH FASTER BUT I FIND IT IS STILL PAINFULLY SLOW OPENING IT UP & ACCESSING EMAILS. DOES THIS DEPEND ON WHICH INTERNET PROVIDER IS USED. I USE BT BUSINESS BROADBAND.

  • 283. Mrs Patricia Doran  |  July 24th, 2008 at 1:45 pm

you are doing a great job improving the system , keep up the good work

  • 286. Taz  |  July 24th, 2008 at 5:45 pm

It’s not all that fast at all. You’ve introduced this security system whereby we have to type in a code before being able to send our mail. How can that be faster? And where was the notification that this was being introduced? Is it necessary? I look forward to hearing from you about this.

  • 287. Lazarus C Elex  |  July 24th, 2008 at 6:07 pm

It can be frustrating having the pages drag on and on before opening. If you save your customers this one embarrassment, it will help in retaining their custom. You can’t afford lose them. Or, can you?

  • 288. LORNA MCKAY  |  July 25th, 2008 at 4:22 am

why do i get so many adverts on my email, sometimes they are so big they take up half of my screen.
    it is very annoying

  • 289. Russel  |  July 25th, 2008 at 5:34 am

I have not noticed any speed up. In fact I would say it is worse. Additionally, each time I open Yahoo mail it sets off my security scan. I stilll trust Yahoo Mail though and enjoy using it.
